Day1

The Darwin Museum was created in 1907. The exhibits of the museum are devoted to the theory of
Charles Darwin and biodiversity. Some of them describe the origin of humans and their relations with nature. The museum has unique collections of stuffed animals and birds, paintings and biological literature from the 16th - 19th centuries.

The Losiny Ostrov (Elk Island) National Park, the first national park in Russia, is located in northeastern Moscow and was created in 1983. Elk Island has a centuries-long history. Tsar Ivan IV often hunted there. The Island got its name in the mid-17th century, under Tsar Alexis, who often went hunting with hounds there.

The Oka Terrace Preserve is located 90 kilometres from Moscow, near the Oka River and close to the town of Serpukhov. The natural zones descend down to the Oka River as terraces, from fir and pine forests in the northern part to the unique (forth at latitude) steppe flora along the banks of the river. The preserve has many rare animals and plants, and its pride is a big herd of aurochs, which have been brought back from the brink of extinction.
